Langkawi resort offers RM10 stay for stranded ferry passengers

LANGKAWI: A resort in Pantai Tengah here is offering a RM10 per night stay for visitors stranded by the disruption of Langkawi ferry services to Kuala Kedah today due to bad weather.

Faiz Sazali, the operator of CenangHill Beachfront, said he introduced the offer out of concern for stranded visitors.

"We're worried about visitors struggling to find accommodation after the ferry trips to Kuala Kedah were cancelled.

"Some may be on a tight budget due to the extended stay, so we're offering RM10 per night today to ease their burden," he said.

Faiz said the resort, which has been in operation since 2021, has 12 rooms and a 32-bed dormitory, able to accommodate up to 60 guests at a time.

Visitors in need of a budget stay can contact the resort at 011-5368 0488 or 019-4430 477.

Earlier, it was reported that all ferry services between Langkawi and Kuala Kedah were grounded due to bad weather, affecting more than 3,000 passengers.

Konsortium Ferrylines Ventures Sdn Bhd later issued a statement that ferry services from the Kuala Kedah jetty will be suspended until Saturday due to strong wind and choppy waters.

Its general manager, Captain Dr Baharin Baharom, said the move was taken following a weather warning issued by the Meteorological Department.

He said the ferry service disruption, due to bad weather in the northern Strait of Malacca between Sept 17 and 21, is affecting 12,532 passengers.

To mitigate the impact, the consortium will add ferry services via the Kuala Perlis ferry terminal based on its capacity, subject to approval from the Marine Department.

Bahrain urged travellers to shift to the Kuala Perlis terminal until the weather situation improved, adding that affected passengers were entitled to a refund or reschedule of their trips.
