King meets Malaysian diaspora in China

BEIJING: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, attended a gathering with the Malaysian diaspora in Beijing, China, today.

Some 300 Malaysians attended the gathering with Sultan Ibrahim, who was accompanied by Tunku Temenggong of Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim and Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Also present were Malaysia's Ambassador to China Datuk Norman Muhamad and Beijing Foreign Studies University President Prof Jia Weijian.

Sultan Ibrahim is on a four-day state visit at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.

Today, His Majesty is also scheduled to visit the Beijing COMAC Aircraft Technology Research Centre.

Sultan Ibrahim's visit to China is the first by a Malaysian King in 10 years, marking a significant moment for both nations as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

In 2014, the late Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah visited China at Xi's invitation.

The visit was also in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Malaysia-China relations, which were established on May 31, 1974.

His Majesty is scheduled to return home tomorrow.
