KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended his congratulations to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the people of Sri Lanka following their successful elections.
In a statement, Anwar expressed optimism about renewing the bonds of friendship between the two nations and emphasised the importance of collaboration to benefit the people.
"Congratulations to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Sri Lanka on their successful elections.
"Looking forward to renewing the bonds of friendship with Sri Lanka soon, and working together for the benefit of our peoples," he said on Facebook.
Anura, the 55-year-old leader of the People's Liberation Front, was announced the winner of the recent election with nearly 1.3 million more votes than his nearest rival on Sunday.
