KLUANG: The Mahkota by-election could swing either way, with Barisan Nasional facing a 50-50 chance of victory, said DAP Wanita chief Teo Nie Ching.
As the race heats up, Teo, who is also the deputy communications minister, emphasised the importance of mobilising the unity government's machinery to engage voters and ensure they make an informed choice on Sept 28.
"Although BN previously held the Mahkota state seat, I believe their chances of winning are still 50-50.
"That's why we must ensure every voter turns out and makes an informed decision on Sept 28," said Teo, who is also the member of parliament for Kulai.
Teo highlighted that their focus will be on engaging with young and female voters.
"How we approach young voters and women is crucial, but our goal is to gain support from all segments of society, regardless of age, gender, or race," she added.
Teo said that the PH election machinery would leave no stone unturned in their outreach efforts, planning dialogues to understand voter concerns while clarifying the government's direction at both federal and state levels.
"We aim to connect with every layer of society, listen to their issues, and explain our vision for the future," she told a press conference after a working visit to the National Information Dissemination Centre in Taman Ilham.
She noted that Sept 28 will determine who has secured the voters' support.
Meanwhile, Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man expressed confidence that young voters would continue to back Perikatan Nasional in Mahkota, as seen in previous elections.
His optimism is reportedly based on the latest data gathered in the constituency.
The Mahkota by-election in Kluang is a straightforward contest between BN's Syed Hussein, 40, and PN's Mohammad Haizan Jaafar, 61, also known as Coach Haizan.
