Govt approves strategic plan to promote good health among public sector workforce

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will introduce a strategic plan aimed at producing public sector workforce with good health sectors helping to boost the country's productivity, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

Dubbed the Putrajaya Sihat Sejahtera Strategic Plan, Zahid said the plan was approved by the Cabinet Committee Meeting on Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat today.

Zahid, who is the committee chairman, said the strategic plan encompasses various strategies and initiatives, set to begin with a pilot phase from this year until 2025.

"The programme aims to reduce the prevalence of health risk factors among public servants in Putrajaya through formulating and implementing policies to promte healthy lifestyles as well as creating a health-supportive environment, while also improving health literacy and workplace wellness practices," he said in a statement after chairing the meeting today.

"Other strategies include strengthening the sustainability of environments that support health and well-being, and empowering a sense of ownership in health and well-being through recognition of strategic partners.

"We will also expand the Wellness on Wheel (WOW) service through 19 vehicles to be launched in collaboration with members of Parliament next year" he added.

Zahid said a baseline data survey will be conducted this year, followed by an effectiveness survey at the end of next year.

He said a total of 16 initiatives will be implemented as indicators for measuring the success of the programme.

"The success of these initiatives will be evaluated through studies and surveys, such as Malaysia Health Literacy Survey 2028, Malaysia Healthy Lifestyle Index 2028, National Health and Morbidity Survey 2028 and post-effectiveness study of the programme 2030," he said.

Zahid added that the success of this programme hingers on empowering public servants and the commitment of strategic partners across all ministries, departments, and agencies, adopting a Whole of Nation approach.

"Health and well-being issues must be addressed across ministries and agencies in all policies (Health In All Policies).
