Access to KLIA 1, KLIA 2 unaffected by sinkhole

SEPANG: Access to both Kuala Lumpur International Airport terminals are unaffected by a sinkhole near the Bunga Raya Complex today.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said that the airside, runways, and flight operations at the air terminals were also not impacted.

In a statement issued on its official Facebook, it confirmed that the sinkhole was detected at 8.54am on the road outside the Bunga Raya Complex.

"The location is approximately 1km from KLIA's main terminal building.

"Our team has cordoned off the area and is assessing the situation," it said.

MAHB said relevant authorities, including the police and Public Works Department were notified and rectification efforts are underway.

It said the affected road is temporarily closed, with a diversion route open for operational vehicles.

"No damage to public property has been reported, and access to both KLIA terminals remains unaffected.

"The airside, runways, and flight operations are also not impacted. Further updates will follow as the investigation progresses," it added.

It was reported that a one-metre deep sinkhole appeared near the Bunga Raya Complex at KLIA

The Works Ministry confirmed in a Facebook post today that the sinkhole formed near the FT26 route at the entrance of the Bunga Raya Complex.

While nearby roads remain open, the area around the sinkhole has been closed for safety. An inspection revealed a sewage manhole belonging to KLIA near the sinkhole.

It is suspected that a sewage pipe leak may have caused the sinkhole.
