ALOR STAR: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor today expressed appreciation to Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for accepting his apology over his remarks during the state election campaign in July last year.
Sanusi, in a statement, also pledged to be more mindful of his words and etiquette, especially whenever he visits Selangor.
"This media statement is meant to express my utmost appreciation for His Majesty Sultan Selangor's decision to accept my apology, as decreed yesterday.
"I am determined to abide by His Majesty Sultan of Selangor's advice for me to be more cautious and to mind my language, especially while being in Selangor," he said.
Sanusi also prayed that Sultan Sharafuddin's forgiveness and kind nature would bring more blessings and further elevate the sultan's sovereignty and Selangor's prosperity.
Yesterday, Sultan Sharafuddin accepted Sanusi' apology and advised him to avoid being overly emotional and to use appropriate language when addressing the people, especially in Selangor.
In a letter addressed to Sanusi, which was shared on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, Sultan Sharafuddin said he had considered Sanusi's apology for the latter's statement made on July 11, 2023 at Taman Selayang Mutiara, Gombak, Selangor.
The sultan also advised Sanusi to be mindful of his words and etiquette, avoid being overly emotional and not use inappropriate language when addressing the public, particularly in Selangor.
On Wednesday, Sanusi issued an unreserved public apology to Sultan Sharafuddin over his remarks on the Selangor election in July last year.
Sanusi acknowledged that his comments had caused displeasure and hurt the feelings of Sultan Sharafuddin as he expressed genuine regret for the negative implications of his words.
He said he truly regretted all the negative implications of his remarks, which resulted in him being charged at the Selayang Sessions Court with two counts of uttering seditious remarks that could incite disloyalty towards the rulers.
The Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director was reported to have belittled the appointment of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shaari by the sultan of Selangor in a ceramah.
Sultan Sharafuddin, in turn, said Sanusi's speech had insulted the royal institution and questioned the wisdom of the ruler.
On July 18 last year, Sanusi pleaded not guilty at the Selayang Sessions Court to two counts of uttering seditious remarks that could incite disloyalty towards the rulers.
