PENANG: Yakult (M) Sdn Bhd, in partnership with Bagan Specialist Centre and Homey Food, hosted the 'Happy Gut, Happy Life' event here on Sunday.
More than 200 participants eager to learn about the crucial link between gut health and mental wellness took part in the event held at Dewan Serbaguna Perkampungan Juru.
The programme was aimed at raising awareness of how a healthy gut contributes to overall mental wellbeing.
The half-day programme featured a variety of activities, including free health check-ups, mental health assessments, exhibitions, seminars with health experts, aerobics sessions, and a family-friendly colouring contest.
Participants also had the opportunity to learn the basics of sushi-making in an exclusive class.
Among the speakers was Bagan Specialist Centre psychiatrist Dr Low Jong Sern, who discussed the intricate connection between the brain and the gut.
He emphasised how gut health influences mental wellness and vice versa.
Homey Food dietitian Samantha Soo Pui Menn also shared practical dietary tips for enhancing mental health through proper nutrition and probiotics.
"The gut is often referred to as the second brain in our body. By understanding the vital connection between them, we can enhance both our mental and physical health," said Dr Low.
Both Dr Low and Soo offered meaningful insights into improving overall wellbeing by nurturing gut health through a balanced diet and probiotics intake.
The event received support from Asia Eye Specialist Centre, Podiatric Footcare Centre, and the Seberang Perai Tengah district health office, allowing participants to gain accurate insights into their health status.
Yakult Malaysia managing director Hiroki Yanase said: "We are thrilled to partner with Bagan Specialist Centre and Homey Food for the 'Happy Gut, Happy Life' programme.
