Kedah Umno urges Sanusi to embrace lessons from Sultan of Selangor's apology

ALOR STAR: Kedah Umno has expressed its appreciation to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, for granting an apology to Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

Its information chief, Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin, said Sultan Sharafuddin's advice and reminder to Sanusi were both timely and appropriate.

Shaiful urged Sanusi to take heed and sincerely repent—not just during speeches—but also to exercise caution in all public forums and media engagements.

"Kedah Umno hopes that this apology will pave the way for more mature political practices and foster a spirit of unity among all political parties," he said.

On Wednesday, Sanusi had issued a public apology to Sultan Sharafuddin following remarks he made during the state election campaign in July last year.

Sanusi's apology on Wednesday was acknowledged and accepted by Sultan Sharafuddin.

Sanusi, in his apology, also gave his word that he would be more careful in making any statements in the future and ensure that his speeches are in line with the Malay customs, which are highly respectful of the Malay Rulers and the royal institution.

On July 18 last year, Sanusi pleaded not guilty at the Selayang Sessions Court to two counts of uttering seditious remarks that could incite disloyalty towards the rulers.

Sanusi was also charged with making the same offence when he allegedly uttered seditious remarks questioning Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement on the King's decree on the establishment of the unity government.
