KANGAR: The Perlis government is consulting with the State Mufti Department and the State Islamic Affairs Department (JAIPs) to determine the best approach for addressing any Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) activities in the state.
State Islamic religious affairs, education, youth and sports, human resource development, information and non-governmental organisations committee chairman Muhammad Azmir Azizan said their monitoring found no recruitment or propagation of GISB teachings in Perlis.
"As far as we can see, GISB activities in Perlis are solely business operations, including Ikhwan Bakery, Ikhwan Laundry, Ikhwan Mart, and Kafe Ikhwan in Kuala Perlis, as well as a childcare centre in Arau. No recruitment or dissemination of teachings has been found to take place in the state.
"Our information and monitoring also show these businesses have already ceased operations. Additionally, the childcare centre has been shut down, with most of the premises under control at present," he said when contacted.
On Sept 20, the Perlis Fatwa Committee ruled the beliefs and teachings of GISB contained elements of deviant religious teachings.
This made Perlis the first state to officially declare GISB an organisation promoting deviant teachings.
Meanwhile, Kangar Municipal Council (MPKangar) president Affendi Rajini Kanth said inspections found all premises under GISB's name operating with valid licences.
"All these premises (registered under GISB) comply with licensing conditions and operate with proper licences. However, we take the Fatwa Committee's declaration seriously.
"In this matter, we will act in line with the legal provisions and regulations. Based on the authority vested in MPKangar, we will not hesitate to take action in accordance with the enforced laws.
"At the same time, we also welcome information from the public and authorities to work together in combating any offences or breaches of the law," he added.
