What they did to my father was cruel, says Sabari's son

KUBANG PASU: Muhammad Amir Hakimi Sabari, 25, was left in shock when informed by police that his father had been murdered and thrown into a river.

Hakimi, who is the youngest child of three to Sabari Baharom, 62, a retired financial officer from Baling, said the act was beyond cruel.

"They had no remorse and dumped his body into the river.

"This was incredibly excessive and inhumane, given that my father was a good man.

"From what I understand, my father even treated the suspect, who is a contractor, with kindness," he shared when approached at the search location for his father's body at Sungai Padang Terap, Wang Tepus, earlier today.

It was reported that Sabari's body is believed to have been thrown into the river, his hands bound and mouth taped.

Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh, said search efforts are still ongoing.

This follows confessions from two local men, aged 26 and 38, who were arrested last Friday.

Investigations are underway under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

It was learnt that the suspect, now in police custody, was a contractor who had been working on a house near his father's residence in Baling.

Meanwhile, Hakimi said the suspect had only been carrying out the construction work for around five months.

"He wasn't from Baling; he only came here for the house project. We had no idea he had bad intentions," Hakimi said, adding that he and his two sisters continue to pray for the recovery of their father's remains.

On Sept 24, Fisol confirmed at a press conference that a 62-year-old woman had been detained to aid in the investigation into Sabari's disappearance.

Sabari, a former finance officer at a government agency, was reported missing on Sept 3 after leaving his home in Kampung Mengkuang Tengah, Kuala Pegang, Baling, in a Proton Waja.

His car was later found burned in Belantik, Sik, but there has been no trace of him since.
