Slideshow takes netizens on groovy trip to the 60s and 70s

KUALA LUMPUR: A recent viral slideshow, set to the iconic song 'Seiring dan Sejalan' by Syarifah Aini and Broery Marantika, has taken netizens on a groovy journey back to life in the 1960s and 1970s.

The slideshow, posted by user Radin Fikri, showcased a nostalgic collection of photos capturing the fashion, architecture and everyday moments.

Radin did so because he missed his late grandfather, who told him stories about "life in that fabulous era".

One photo showing a group of teachers dressed in fashionable bell bottoms had sparked fond memories among viewers.

User Asha commented, "For Gen X, every time we see old pictures of our parents, we think 'wow, their fashion is so cool'."

Another user, Roxy Zai, added a humorous note, "You have to iron that bell bottoms until they're pointy. They even used starch. That's how grandpas wanted their clothes."

The slideshow also included the iconic architectural landmarks of the time, particularly then-new Modernist and Brutalist buildings, a number of which may no longer be standing today.

"Subang Airport was absolutely gorgeous. It's a shame Malaysia didn't take care of it," said user Lee_Hin.

"The National Mosque still looked modern at that time, " said user Obi.

Beyond fashion and architecture, the slideshow also featured a fascinating photo of a school receipt, showing a modest total of RM19 for school supplies and fees.

User Irfa Syakila couldn't help but compare it with today's cost, saying, "That school receipt. These days, it costs hundreds."

One particularly nostalgic image featured the historic A&W restaurant in Petaling Jaya, the first fast-food outlet to open in the country.

"Hey, that A&W used to be so crowded," remarked Nabila Amani Basiron.

MuhammadAriff chimed in with an update, "PJ's A&W is still going strong today."

While simple, the slideshow struck a chord with many users, who reflected on the carefree times.

Mr.HanafiGITU2 commented, "That picture of students returning home from school, that made me tear up. I miss it so much."

Another user, Suhaimi, expressed a heartfelt wish: "It's all memories now. If there is a portal to go back, I may be able to meet my father and late mother in their younger years."

Premma Kandasamy summed up the sentiment felt by many viewers: "Hugs to the yesteryears, always near to our hearts."
