Selangor tops list of errant smokers, Sarawak second

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry (MoH) issued a total of 86,402 offence notices nationwide to smokers for lighting up at prohibited places from Jan to Aug this year.

In a statement today, the ministry said the notices were issued under Regulation 11(1) of the Tobacco Product Control Regulations (PPKHT) 2004.

"A total of 12,022 operations were conducted over the period, with 86,402 offence notices issued under Regulation 11(1).

"Another 35,996 offence notices were issued under Regulation 11(1)(d) for smoking at eateries," read the statement.

Selangor recorded the highest number of notices issued with 4,838, followed by Sarawak with 4,314; Johor with 4,071; Penang with 3,266 and Pahang with 2,886 notices.

Last year, a total of 16,046 anti-smoking operations were conducted nationwide, with 96,127 offence notices were issued under Regulation 11(1) and 41,581 offence notices under Regulation 11(1)(d).
