Simpang Renggam hit by floods after record rainfall, says Johor Menteri Besar

JOHOR BARU: Rainfall three times the usual amount caused Simpang Renggam, near Kluang to be hit by floods since yesterday (Oct 6).

"I have been informed that the heavy rain yesterday exceeded normal levels, with recorded rainfall reaching 110 millimetres (mm) compared to the typical level of 30 mm," said Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi today (Oct 7).

"I have requested the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) to find immediate solutions to prevent such incidents in the future.

"I urge all Johor residents in high-risk areas to remain vigilant, prioritise their safety, and stay informed about information or instructions from the authorities," he said in a social media post last night.

Onn Hafiz, who is also the Machap assemblyman earlier visited flood victims and provided assistance at the Temporary Relief Centres (PPS) at SK Dato' Onn Jaafar and Sekolah Kampung Tengah, Renggam.

Yesterday, nearly 200 flood victims from Taman Suria, Taman Rekamas, and Taman Seri Tengah Renggam were affected by the floods and were placed in the two relief centres.

As of noon today, the Johor State Secretary and Chairman of the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said that 891 victims from 262 families had been accommodated in 11 relief centres across three districts: Kluang, Pontian, and Batu Pahat.
