Birthday outing turns tragic as teen drowns at Pulau Carey

SHAH ALAM: A beach outing to celebrate a birthday turned tragic for seven friends after one of them drowned at Pulau Carey, Telok Panglima Garang, yesterday.

The body of the 17-year-old victim was found not far from the spot where he was last seen before he went missing.

Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @ Saleh said a report was lodged over the incident at 7.19pm yesterday.

"The victim together with six of his friends were at the location to celebrate the birthday of one of them.

"The victim, along with three others, later went to take a dip at the beach and he swam towards the sea channel despite being warned by his friends.

"About five minutes later, his friends realised that the victim went missing, suspected to have been swept away by the current," he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Ridhwan also said there were no elements of foul play found on the body of the victim.

"His body was sent to the Banting Hospital for post-mortem," he said, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death.
