Teresa Kok secures Court order to seize and sell Jamal Yunos' property [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Seputeh member of parliament Teresa Kok has obtained a court order to seize and sell Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos' house in Ampang Jaya here.

This follows the Sungai Besar Umno chief's failure to pay RM50,000 in legal costs that were awarded to Kok in a defamation case.

On March 27, a three-member Court of Appeal panel upheld a High Court ruling that found Jamal liable for defaming Kok and ordered him to pay her RM300,000 in damages and RM50,000 in legal costs.

Kok filed the defamation suit in 2017 after Jamal accused her of misappropriating funds from the Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor under the Selangor government's Skim Mesra Usia Emas initiative.

Lawyer Datuk Sankara Nair, who represented Kok, said Jamal has paid the damages but the legal costs remained outstanding, leading to the execution writ at Jamal's residence.

Sankara said the court's bailiff, Abu Sopian Zakarian, attempted to execute the court order this morning but was unsuccessful as no one was present at the property.

"The execution was unsuccessful as no one was at the premises at the time of the execution.

"The execution is adjourned pending the judgment creditor (Kok) obtaining an order of court for forced entry," he said.

Sankara said the case was set for management at a date yet to be determined.

The New Straits Times has reached out to Jamal for comments.
