PUTRAJAYA: The National Mental Health Crisis Line, also known as the Heal Line, has received 59,860 calls for emotional assistance and psycho-educational intervention since its inception in 2022.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said of the total, 336 cases involved suicidal tendencies and 198 involved suicidal ideation.
"There were 198 individuals contemplating suicide and 138 cases related to suicide attempts.
"These cases require immediate intervention and identification of issues to prevent suicide," he told reporters after launching the World Mental Health Day celebration here.
Dr Dzulkefly said 35,590 of the callers to the Heal Line, or 59 per cent, required emotional support.
He said 24,270 callers needed positive psycho-education, counselling and help with coping skills.
"This is why it is crucial for top-level managers and workplace leaders, including directors, to foster a culture of empathy and a fair working environment.
"Leaders expect great performance from their teams, but the best results are achieved when employees receive support and cooperate and are enthusiastic about fulfilling the organisation's vision and goals."
Dr Dzulkefly called on all quarters to play a part in addressing these challenges.
"Efforts to tackle mental health issues, including in the workplace, require the full commitment of all parties."
