Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet to dock at George Town

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has granted clearance for the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet to dock at George Town from Oct 14 to Oct 17.

The fleet, consisting of the corvettes Gromkiy, Rezkiy, Aldar Tsydenzhapov, and the medium seagoing tanker Pachanga, will enter Malaysian waters after the government approves it.

The Foreign Ministry also outlined several conditions for the visit in a statement today (Oct 14), requesting that the Russian vessels and crew members strictly adhere to Malaysian laws and armed forces regulations.

"While the vessels are in port, electronic transmission equipment utilisation should be reduced to a minimum and precautions should be taken to safeguard the vessels and the navy personnel's safety.

"Any expenses incurred during the exercise are the responsibility of the government of the Russian Federation.

"The Foreign Ministry avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of the Russian Federation the assurances of its highest consideration," they said.
