IPOH: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) today (Oct 15) confirmed that it was releasing water from the Chenderoh Dam in Kuala Kangsar.
In a Facebook post, TNB CareLine stated that the action was necessary due to rising water levels in Sungai Perak following heavy rain.
"TNB acknowledges the viral message regarding the water release from the Chenderoh Dam and the rising water levels in Sungai Perak.
"A controlled release of water is necessary to balance the inflow and outflow due to rising water levels following continuous rainfall in the large catchment area," the post said.
Earlier, several videos circulating on social media claimed that water was being released from the Chenderoh Dam, causing a rise in Sungai Perak's water level and overflow in areas along the riverbanks.
The post added that TNB was closely coordinating with local authorities and related agencies to ensure that the water release was carried out in a controlled and planned manner according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure public safety.
"The public is advised not to spread incomplete or unverified information that may cause public concern.
For further information, they may contact TNB through a private message on TNB CareLine's Facebook page or a Direct Message on X @Tenaga_Nasional," the post added.
