PUTRAJAYA: The public is reminded to stay vigilant and prioritise electrical and gas safety during the flood season, as floods pose serious risks like fallen power lines and damaged equipment.
The Energy Commission issued a statement reminding people to take precautions before, during, and after a flood.
Before evacuating, ensure electrical equipment is stored above flood levels and turn off the main switch on the electrical board. Solar PV systems and gas valves should also be shut off.
During a flood, avoid areas with submerged electrical installations, such as substations, and do not touch poles or structures that conduct electricity. Report any fallen poles or broken wires immediately to the utility provider.
After a flood, keep the main electrical switch and gas valves off until equipment is checked and dry. Always exercise caution when cleaning near power lines, electrical installations, and gas systems.
The Energy Commission also warned against using any electrical or gas equipment if safety is in doubt, advising people to contact registered contractors for inspections.
The public should also keep emergency contacts for police, fire departments, hospitals, and utility companies on hand. – BERNAMA
