SHAH ALAM: Police are intensifying their search for two more suspects to assist in the investigation of a 16.9-kilogram gold bar robbery in Puchong last month.
Selangor police chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said that the robbery, which occurred on Sept 13, resulted in the victim losing gold bars worth RM5.9 million.
He explained that the victim and a colleague were loading gold bars, belonging to their company, into a vehicle at the Puchong Industrial Complex at around 11am when the suspects approached.
"The suspects, four masked men, arrived in a blue Perodua Axia with a fake registration number.
"The complainant was struck on the hands and legs with a stick, while another suspect brandished a machete, allowing the third suspect to take the bag containing the gold bars from the back seat of the company vehicle," he said.
He said this during a press conference after the Selangor Contingent's 2024 Drug Evidence Disposal Ceremony at the Selangor Police Headquarters today.
Hussein added that five men and two women, aged between 27 and 60, were arrested between Oct 8 and 14.
"A criminal record check revealed that four of the suspects have 25 prior criminal and drug-related offences.
"Police also seized vehicles and equipment used in the robbery, including a Perodua Axia, a Volkswagen Passat, six gloves, and stolen items such as four gold pieces, other items, and cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of stolen property.
"Investigations show that the suspects purchased several luxury vehicles using the proceeds from the gold bar robbery," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code.
