Man injured after falling into monsoon drain with missing cover

KANGAR: A man suffered injuries to his leg and arm after falling into a monsoon drain while walking to a pharmacy in Taman Emas Jaya, Bintong, last night.

The incident occurred at 10.07pm when the 37-year-old victim was walking along the pavement on Jalan Raja Syed Saffi.

He was rushing to the pharmacy when he unexpectedly fell into the drain due to a missing metal cover.

Perlis Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) director Mohd Izaimi Md Dau said the victim did not notice the opening as he was focused on reaching the pharmacy.

"We received an emergency call for assistance, as the victim was unable to climb out of the drain on his own," he said.

Five APM personnel arrived at the scene at 10.13pm and successfully rescued the victim.

He was subsequently transported to Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) for further treatment.
