Singapore oil pipeline leak: Johor authorities monitoring situation

JOHOR BARU: Johor has yet to detect any sign of oil spills in its waters following an oil pipeline leak at Pulau Bukom, Singapore.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the authorities were monitoring waters near the republic.

"The Southern Region Marine Department and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency have been informed about the oil pipeline leak in Singapore.

Pulau Bukom, located 5.5km southwest of Singapore's mainland, hosts an integrated oil and petrochemical site with manufacturing facilities for fuel, base oil lubricants and specialty chemicals.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) had reported that the oil leak was detected around 5.30am on Saturday from a land pipeline owned by an international oil and gas company.

As a result, oil from the pipeline reportedly flowed into a containment area, with some spilling into the waterways between Pulau Bukom and Bukom Kecil.

Equipment, including oil booms, had reportedly been deployed near the site, while the MPA had activated drones and satellite capabilities to track the oil spill for clean-up efforts.
