BAYAN LEPAS: The condition of Pantai Esen, which has become muddy and smelly, is worrying Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM).
SAM president Meenakshi Raman today said the Department of Environment (DoE) should investigate the situation, especially since the reclamation for the Silicon Island project is happening nearby.
"The DoE must make public its findings on what is happening at Pantai Esen.
"It is tragic that such a popular beach has been destroyed so badly," she told the 'New Straits Times'.
Meenakshi said the authorities must take measures to restore the beach to its original state.
Earlier today, it was reported that Pantai Esen, a spot for visitors and photographers to admire sunsets, has been plagued by muddy sludge, foul odours and blackened water.
The odour is noticeable from 100m away. Due to the dark, muddy water, no visitors were seen swimming or playing in the area.
