KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa denied claims that personnel from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage and Kuala Lumpur City Hall were late in responding to the flash flood on October 15.
She said personnel from the DID and City Hall were on the ground throughout the incident, which lasted for two hours and 15 minutes.
"According to the meteorological reports, the rain began at 8.30am and stopped around 10.45am.
"During the period, the DID and City Hall personnel worked to redirect water and assist in draining the floodwaters. Therefore, claims of their late arrival are inaccurate," she said during the Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.
The torrential downpour during rush hour on Oct 15 caused major traffic jams as several roads in the city were submerged in flood water.
Pictures and videos of cars stuck in flood waters were widely shared on social media and WhatsApp.
One picture showed Bulatan Dato Onn, headed towards Jalan Parlimen, flooded with muddy water.
