LABUAN: An EC 725 AP helicopter belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) from the No. 5 Squadron conducted a relief supply sortie on the first day of its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) mission in the Philippines.
RMAF, in a statement to Bernama tonight, said today's mission involved a round-trip flight from Villamor Air Base to Bicol International Airport, transporting three outboard inflatable boats with engines.
The flight also carried 10 boxes containing life-saving equipment.
It said all supplies delivered were intended for use in remote areas and around the city of Legazpi, Bicol, which has been affected by severe flooding due to Tropical Storm Kristine (Trami).
The first flight mission was carried out by Major Aslam Hariri of the RMAF, assisted by two crew members and three technical personnel. Joining the RMAF in the HADR mission were the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).
The RMAF aircraft arrived yesterday at Villamor Air Base, Philippines, at 2.40pm Malaysian time.
The HADR mission will continue tomorrow.
