KUALA LUMPUR: Local convenience chain Mynews has launched its first standalone Maru Coffee cafe today at the Intercontinental Kuala Lumpur.
Previously operating as Maru Cafe within Mynews stores, this new setup aims to be a haven for coffee enthusiasts, sandwich lovers, and fans of donburi rice bowls, staying true to its Japanese minimalist roots.
Maru Coffee business development manager Keith Dang says Malaysia's coffee market, now the second-fastest growing globally at 28 per cent, just behind China, presents a clear opportunity to tap into.
"Maru Coffee has something for everyone, from bold coffees and refreshing fruity drinks to Japanese-inspired bowls, sandwiches, and donburi. We want to be your go-to for a quick pick-me-up or a relaxing spot with family and friends," said Dang.
"Our goal is to expand to at least 20,000 outlets by 2025, and customer feedback is key to our growth."
The cafe's chief business development officer, Ong Li Syin, said Maru Coffee builds on the Mynews brand to make high-quality coffee more accessible, with plans for 20 new outlets in Malaysia over the next year and a goal of 100 branches nationwide within three years.
"The Maru Coffee menu combines Japanese and Kenyan influences, with food prepared in collaboration with partners in Damansara, bringing a unique culinary variety to our guests," Ong explained.
We offer more than just coffee; with donburi, specialty teas, and an emphasis on quality and fair pricing, we aim to provide a memorable experience."
Menu highlights include Maru Frappe, Fruity Fizzy, chocolate, and matcha drinks, alongside wraps and sando-style sandwiches, with prices ranging from RM4 to RM15.
Guests at the grand opening also enjoyed barista demonstrations featuring the Lychee Rose Fruity Fizz and the Strawberry Matcha Latte, showcasing Maru Coffee's inventive, refreshing drink options.
