KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today wished Happy Deepavali to all Hindu devotees in Malaysia.

In a post on his social media platforms, he emphasised the importance of fostering respect and understanding among diverse cultures.

"Deepavali arrives with great joy and the spirit of celebrating the festival of lights as a symbol of the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and the power of knowledge over ignorance and arrogance.

"As a society rich in culture, we must embody respect and understanding among communities. Let us use this opportunity to strengthen unity among different races and find common ground while increasing our compassion for those living in poverty and hardship.

"I hope this Deepavali celebration can be marked by a spirit of renewed and pure thinking so the dignity of the people can be elevated. Happy Deepavali to all Hindu devotees" he wrote.
