KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has pledged to probe claims of sexual assault involving a medical assistant (MA) in Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 in Kota Kinabalu.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad gave his assurances that the ministry would investigate the matter once police probes were completed, and denied claims of inaction from the ministry over the case.
"We will certainly investigate this, you know very well that we will not allow this.
"Don't worry, we will get to the bottom of it. Whatever the outcome (from the police investigation), we promise you we will follow through."
Dr Dzulkefly said this after attending the Health and Wellbeing Programme with Members of Parliament in the Dewan Rakyat, today.
It was reported today that a 32-year-old administrative staff member of the hospital had accused authorities of "inaction" in her sexual assault complaint against the MA.
She had claimed that she had reported the incident to the Health Ministry and the police but had seen little progress in her case.
She alleged that the male MA had made inappropriate touches during a clinical procedure in June, and made sexually-tinged comments throughout the procedure.
She told Malaysiakini that she had filed a complaint with the hospital management three days after the incident, before lodging a police report, and also filed a formal report with the Health Ministry through the Public Complaints Management System.
