PUTRAJAYA: The government has yet to decide on the status of the National Council of Professors (MPN), following the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) recommendation to review if it remains relevant as a driving force of academic expertise.
Unity government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil said the matter was not addressed during the cabinet meeting today.
"The prime minister had previously issued a strong caution about how some matters are being managed.
"However, (there is) no decision yet on it and during the meeting the matter has not been raised," he said during his weekly press conference today.
The PAC in its recommendation said the Prime Minister's Department needs to review MPN to decide if it remains relevant as a driving force of academic expertise in supporting the government in nation-building.
PAC said if the department wants to maintain MPN as a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLBG) under the government, it should be placed under the Higher Education Ministry in line with its functions and role.
