KUALA KEDAH: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail expressed gratitude to Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for his efforts in fostering a better working relationship with the federal government.
Saifuddin acknowledged that Sanusi's renewed approach has indeed strengthened the cooperation between the two governments.
"I extend my thanks to my friend, Sanusi, for his efforts in this regard. The situation is truly looking good now. I don't see any issues on our end, and I commend him for his statement on the matter.
"As we say in Kedah, things are getting very 'segak' (looking good)," he told reporters after opening Baitul Mahabbah Darul Aman at Kampung Sematang, Kuala Kedah here today.
On Nov 7, Sanusi said the relationship between the state administration and the federal government had improved, noting that the new approach has allowed federal projects in Kedah to progress more smoothly than before.
Meanwhile, on a separate matter, Saifuddin said over 16,000 undocumented migrants are being detained at immigration depots nationwide, with more than a thousand of them children are under 18 years old.
He said the Baitul Mahabbah initiative will house undocumented migrant children under 10 years old along with their guardians, aligning with the Madani government's compassionate approach.
"Given our government's commitment to compassion, we are providing these children with a more conducive environment, including access to medical care," he said.
He added that the Baitul Mahabbah Darul Aman in Kuala Kedah began operations on July 24, with a capacity of 60, contributing to the overall capacity of 340 across five Baitul Mahabbah centres.
"Today, I visited children here who are actively engaged in daily routines, led by our officers. Currently, we have 35 individuals, both children and guardians, housed together.
"What makes this place unique is the involvement of seven government agencies and significant non-governmental organisation support. I am confident that if we do good, support will continue to follow," he added.
