KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has provided humanitarian aid totalling RM45 million to the Palestinian people in Gaza since Oct 7, 2023, until now, said Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin.
He said the aid was channelled through the Palestine People's Humanitarian Trust Account (AAKRP) with the cooperation of various parties, including non-governmental organisations (NGOs) involved in Ops Ehsan, United Nations agencies such as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and the Malaysian Embassy in Amman, Jordan.
He added that more than 5,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid from Malaysia had been sent to Gaza through the Rafah border since October 2023, benefiting millions of Palestinians.
"The situation has become even more challenging after the Rafah border gate was closed on May 7, 2024, and now the only operational aid route is through the King Hussein Bridge in Jordan.
"Therefore, we are strengthening cooperation between Malaysia and the Jordanian government, and we have received an invitation and agreed to participate in the aid mission through this bridge in collaboration with the Jordanian government," he said during a question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to Mordi Bimol (PH-Mas Gading) who asked about the Malaysian Government's stance regarding the Gaza humanitarian crisis, including the forms of humanitarian aid that have been provided.
Mohamad Alamin said Malaysia had also contributed 500,000 US$ to the King Hussein Cancer Center and the Hashimiyah Charity Organization in Jordan each.
"We have made a full commitment to participate in the rebuilding of Palestine," he said.
He added that Malaysia continues to strongly advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people and is committed to ensuring Palestine is recognised as a full member state of the United Nations.
"In this regard, Malaysia has called for the full implementation of Resolution ES10-24, urging the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take firm action to stop Israel's illegal settlement activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, in the interest of justice for the Palestinian people," he said.
