KOTA KINABALU:Sabah police successfully resolved around 80 per cent of reported crime cases in the state within the first 10 months of this year.
Sabah Police Commissioner, Datuk Jauteh Dikun said that the achievement places the Sabah contingent in the third-highest position for overall crime resolution in the country.
"For the record, Sabah resolved 80.42 percent of the total 3,652 cases this year, compared to 78.41 percent of 3,432 cases last year.
"In terms of criminal charges, 58.27 percent were recorded for the same period this year, making Sabah Contingent the top in the country for criminal case charges," he said in a press conference at the Sabah Police Headquarters here.
However, Jauteh said that Sabah recorded a 6.41 percent increase in crime rate, equivalent to 220 cases, aligned with the contingent's proactive approach of opening investigation files for all crime-related reports from the start.
"This approach ensures the well-being and safety of the community, as the fear level is similar regardless of whether the crime is minor or major," he said.
Meanwhile, Jauteh stated that the police are intensifying awareness campaigns for road users to reduce the accident rate, particularly fatal accidents.
"Alongside monitoring, we are also conducting awareness campaigns for road users.
"This is because most road accidents result from personal negligence, so our campaign aims to raise awareness, encouraging users to be more cautious and prioritise safety while on the road," he added.
