KUALA TERENGGANU: Muhammad Daim Irfanshah Saiful Azrin Awang, 6, who died alongside his father in an accident in Kuala Berang yesterday, had cried and begged to accompany his brother and sister to school before the incident.
Typically, their father, Saiful Azrin Awang, 42, would drop off the older siblings before returning home to take Muhammad Daim Irfanshah to preschool.
However, yesterday, the family faced an unexpected challenge: the car had a flat tyre, forcing him to use a motorcycle instead.
Saiful Azrin had dropped the two older siblings at school and was on his way to send the younger child to preschool when they were involved in an accident with a car.
The accident occurred at KM15 of Jalan Gaung-Kuala Ping-Teris at 7.45am yesterday, resulting in Muhammad Daim Irfanshah dying at the scene, while Saiful Azrin died while receiving treatment at the hospital at about noon.
His sister Amalin Shahila, 16, said she and another sibling, Mohd Danial Hakim, 13, were on their way to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Matang on the day of the accident.
"Our father usually drives me and Mohd Danial Hakim to school, but the car tyre went flat about 150 meters after we left home.
"My father turned back and decided to take us on the motorcycle. Normally, Muhammad Daim Irfanshah would be taken by our father to preschool after he dropped us off at school.
"However, he was whining and crying to follow us to school," she said when met at the Kampung Alur Lek Cemetery yesterday.
Amalin, the second child of five siblings, added that Muhammad Daim Irfanshah also hugged them as soon as they got off the motorcycle to enter their classes.
Ten minutes later, the siblings were devastated to learn that their father and brother had been involved in an accident.
Meanwhile, Saiful Azrin's wife, Norazilah Mamat @ Alias, 42, fainted more than three times as the bodies of her husband and son were taken to the hearse for burial.
Family members had to assist her to the house after she collapsed while running toward the coffins.
The couple, married since 2003, have three children, including eldest, Nazira Shahiza, 19, and their youngest, Muhammad Dian Aryan Shah, who is just 15 months old.
