DPP to decide on Daim's case, says MACC [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Deputy Public Prosecutor will decide on the next course of action regarding Tun Daim Zainuddin's Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission case following the latter's passing this morning.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the graft busters will be discussing the next course of action with the DPP and how Daim's passing affects their investigations.

"Only the DPP can decide how to proceed, we are only in charge of investigating," he told the New Straits Times.

"I think it will take at least one or two weeks, we will provide an update once a decision has been made."

Daim died earlier this morning. He was 86.

The businessman turned politician served as finance minister between 1984 to 1991 and later between 1998 to 2001.

Last year, Daim was probed in connection to the Pandora Papers, which revealed offshore accounts of leaders from around the world.

He was charged this year for failing to declare his assets which include 38 companies, 25 properties and seven luxury cars.

Daim had claimed the probe was politically motivated.
