KUALA LUMPUR: The remains of former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin has arrived at Masjid Wilayah here for funeral prayers.
Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Hulu Kelang assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali were seen approaching Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid to extend their heartfelt condolences on the passing of her husband.
Earlier, Daim's body was taken from his residence in Bukit Tunku at 3.35pm and brought to the mosque for prayers.
The body was bathed and shrouded at his home before being transported.
Daim's remains were brought back to his residence at 11.30am after departing Assunta Hospital at 11.10am.
Among those who paid their last respects were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Machang member of Parliament Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, Kota Baru MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Semporna MP Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Azmin.
Also present were former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Tan Sri Rais Yatim, Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir and Berjaya Group founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan.
Media personnel, who were at his residence since 11.15am, were also allowed to pay their respects.
Daim will be buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery.
Daim, a businessman turned politician, served as finance minister between 1984 to 1991 and later between 1998 to 2001.
