Malaysia ready to help Peru in Islamic matters, halal certification

LIMA: Malaysia is ready to assist Peru in Islamic matters, including halal certification, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said he expressed Malaysia's commitment to doing so to Islamic Association of Peru president Murad Hamida in a meeting here.

"During our meeting, we discussed issues related to Muslims in Peru," he said in a social media post.

"Also discussed was Malaysia's commitment to easing halal certification processes and assisting with Islamic education and 'dakwah' among Peru's Muslim community."

Anwar said Murad praised Malaysia's efforts to support the plight of Palestinians and Lebanese oppressed by Israel in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

During the 30-minute meeting, Anwar handed over contributions to Peru's Muslim community, including 50 copies of the Holy Quran translated into Spanish.

Yesterday, in a joint press conference with Peru President, Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, Anwar said Malaysia plans to make Peru a halal product gateway in Latin America.

Anwar is in Peru to attend the 31st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting from Nov 14 to 16.
