KAMPAR: All recreational and outdoor water sports activities in river areas within Kampar district have been immediately suspended.
This follows the flash flood tragedy in Sungai Jahang that claimed three lives earlier today.
Confirming this, Kampar district officer and chairman of the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD), Nazrul Fazami Mohamad, said that the directive applies to all resort and campsite operators until further notice from the authorities.
"Activities that have been suspended include rafting, water tubing, and any other activities involving river areas in Kampar District," he said in a statement.
Earlier, three Public Works Department (JKR) officers drowned after their raft capsized due to a flash flood while rafting along Sungai Jahang, near Gopeng.
The victims were Suhaili Mat Saad, 47, district engineer for Seberang Perai Tengah; Mohamad Khairul Hakim Hamidi, 37, senior assistant engineer for JKR Langkawi; and Muhammad Ikram Abdul Bari, 29, customer service officer for JKR Langkawi.
The victims' bodies are currently at the Forensic Unit of Kampar Hospital.
