KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has expressed its utmost disappointment over the failure of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to adopt a resolution to impose a ceasefire and facilitate immediate access to essential services and humanitarian assistance in Gaza.
Wisma Putra, in a statement, calls for the UNSC to take decisive action to carry out its primary role of maintaining international peace and security.
This also includes upholding the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and protecting the sanctity of international law, it said.
"The resolution, which was supported by the majority of UNSC members, was defeated through a veto on Nov 20, 2024.
"The exercise of veto frustrates the wish of the international community to end the genocide in Gaza and derails efforts to find a solution to the ongoing crisis.
"Malaysia calls for the UNSC to take decisive action to end the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and carry out its primary role of maintaining international peace and security, upholding the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and protecting the sanctity of international law," it said.
It reiterated Malaysia's unwavering commitment to finding a peaceful and sustainable solution to the longstanding issue of Palestine.
