[UPDATED] No info on Jho Low's wherebout, says IGP [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have no verified information about allegations that 1MDB fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, known as Jho Low, is hiding out in Myanmar.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said this today. He said despite close cooperation between their regional counterparts in Asean, police had not heard anything about claims of Jho Low being in Myanmar.

He said police had checked with the Myanmar authorities about the claims but they had yet to provide any information.

"We have a good relationship with Aseanapol and Interpol agencies. If something like this were to develop in any of the member countries, the information would have been relayed to us," he said.

Razarudin said police remain committed to tracking down Jho Low and bringing him to justice but, as of now, there were no leads on his whereabouts.

He added there was a lack of credibility on the latest information regarding the whereabouts of the fugitive financier who is linked to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's 1MDB case.

Razarudin's comment follows remarks made by Najib's lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, at a forum on the 1MDB corruption scandal early this week.

Shafee had allegedly based his claims on testimony from Jasmine Loo, a former 1MDB lawyer and a key witness in the ongoing criminal and civil cases involving Najib and his family.

In an earlier report, Shafee said Loo had previously alleged that Jho Low had assisted her to enter Myanmar informally.

Loo's testimony is crucial in both the criminal trials against Najib and civil suits filed by 1MDB to recover billions of ringgit allegedly misappropriated by Najib and his associates.
