LABUAN: Labuan Connect! 2024 has been hailed as a groundbreaking initiative, marking a significant milestone not just for Labuan but also for Malaysia as a whole.
Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Nu-rul Afida Kamaludin emphasised that this programme reflects the commitment to advancing digital transformation to empower communities, foster innovation and drive meaningful progress.
"Bernama has always believed in the power of information and technology to shape societies and connect people.
"Our mission goes beyond delivering accurate and timely news as a trusted source.
"We also serve as a catalyst for change and development," she said at the launch of Labuan Connect! 2024 at Kampung Patau-Patau 1 here today (Nov 23).
Also present was Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (Strategic Communication and Creative Industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin.
She said as a strategic partner of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for the Labuan Connect! programme, Bernama is supporting its success through various efforts, including highlighting the stories and achievements of Labuan's community as they embark on this journey of digital transformation.
"It is to raise awareness about the importance of inclusivity, innovation, and safe digital practices.
"Also to amplify the voices of Labuan's people, particularly its youth, entrepreneurs and change-makers, to resonate across the nation and beyond borders.
"We are leveraging all our platforms, expertise, and resources to ensure impactful coverage of this initiative, showcasing Labuan as a hub for innovation and progress," she said.
Nu-rul Afida said Bernama also aims to provide a platform for dialogue and collaboration, enabling stakeholders and the community to share insights and ideas.
She also highlighted the importance of inspiring and educating through compelling storytelling, underscoring the transformative power of digital technology.
"This mission aligns with Bernama's broader role as a 'bridge' connecting Peninsular Malaysia with Labuan, Sabah and Sarawak, fostering unity, mutual understanding and national harmony.
Nu-rul Afida encouraged the Labuan community to seize the opportunities offered by the Labuan Connect! programme.
"Let us work together to build a future where every individual—regardless of background or circumstance - has the chance to thrive in the era of digital transformation," she said.
