BEAUFORT: A man is feared missing after getting lost while hiking at Bukit Bendera here this morning.
Irwan Sumatra, 39, was reportedly hiking with a friend around 8am to reach the summit of Bukit Bendera.
However, on their way down, his friend realised Irwan was no longer with him and searched along the hiking trails, but could not locate him.
The friend reported the incident to the police and the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia.
It is understood that half an hour before the incident, a team led by Beaufort Fire and Rescue Department Chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Mohammad Hasbullah Nenggok had just completed a community service task of installing signage along the Bukit Bendera trail.
Hasbullah said they received an emergency call about the incident at 12.34pm.
"A team of officers and personnel, along with the police, rushed to the scene, located 5km from the fire department.
"Upon arrival, a search operation was conducted along the Bukit Bendera hiking trails.
"Up to now, the victim has not been found, and the search operation is ongoing," he said when contacted today.
The search operation also involves the Civil Defence Force and the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela).
