PUTATAN: The Sabah Water Department (JANS) is taking preventive measures to minimise water disruptions.
State Public Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said this includes locating burst pipes and ensuring proper water pressure.
He was commenting on the several weeks of water disruptions in Putatan and Kota Kinabalu.
The Putatan member of parliament said the disruptions were caused by a malfunction at the Telibong Water Treatment Plant pump and burst pipes.
"The situation worsened with the burst pipes, forcing the redistribution of water from the Moyog and Kasigui plants to several areas in Kota Kinabalu.
"As conditions stabilised and water pressure was restored in Putatan, adjustments in the pipeline system caused additional pipes to burst, further affecting water pressure in certain areas."
He said this after officiating the Smart Jawab SPM 2024 programme organised by the Putatan Parliamentary Office at Sekolah Menengah Maktab Sabah today.
He said water supply in Putatan was returning to normal as repairs were being carried out.
"This process takes time. The authorities are committed to restoring water supply as quickly as possible," he said, apologising to residents for the inconvenience.
