RANTAU PANJANG: Parents of students who live in Thailand and attend school here welcomed the government's move to place their children in school hostels.
Among them is a self-employed man, who wished to be known as Saifuddin.
He said placing the children in the school hostels would not only reduce travel time but also ensure the safety of his children while going to school.
"If it is true, then this is great news to me.
"For me, such a move can help address many of the issues faced by us parents who have to travel back and forth to send our children to school here," said the 49-year-old when met after fetching his 16-year-old son from school.
Meanwhile, the Parent-Teacher Association president of SK Rantau Panjang 1, Fadhli Mat Yusoff, said he believed many parents would support the move.
"I think this is the best solution to put a stop to this problem. It is also for the students' safety and will be good for their future," he added.
State Education Department director Datuk Mohd Zamri Abdul Aziz was reported to have said the department would bring the solution discussed in the meeting's today to the Education Minister.
"There are few solutions to solve the issue of students crossing the border to attend school here and this include to place them at school's hostels," he added.
Today's meeting was held between the department with several border agencies including the police and the National Security Council.
