KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says he is "mystified" that alleged wrongdoers are being "punished" by investigators.
In a statement, Dr Mahathir said wrongdoers should be tried in a court and sentenced to jail, fined, or caned.
"Investigators now seem to make their own judgment and carry out punishment.
"People and organisations have their funds frozen, their businesses closed, their books seized, and they or the owners of organisations are detained in lockups.
"However, he did not specify any person or company allegedly persecuted. He said when investigators act against people or businesses, it also affects their employees.
"Must they be punished also? They have to live.
"Is this justice? Is this the rule of law? I am mystified."
