KOTA BARU: Many Malaysians living in Sungai Golok, Thailand, who previously used illegal jetties to cross into Kelantan, are now ready to use the Customs, Immigration, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex starting Dec 1.
They claimed that using the checkpoint would not be a problem for them, and they are willing to follow the rules.
Self-employed Ibrahim Said said he has lived in Sungai Golok town since marrying his wife 32 years ago.
"I admit that sometimes I used the illegal jetty to go to Rantau Panjang to visit my parents, who live in Lubok Setol, but most of the time, I used the checkpoint.
"For me, using the legal way is not a burden at all. I have renewed my border pass every year."
"My border pass expired last month, and I will renew it soon as I do not want to use the illegal jetty anymore," said the 52-year-old father of five.
Housewife Fatimah Yusoff said she has been using the ICQS every time she crosses into Rantau Panjang.
"I have been using the checkpoint since 2020. I have siblings and other family members here.
"I moved to Sungai Padi after marrying a Thai man 15 years ago," said the 42-year-old.
Both of them were among many Kelantanese who have moved to Thailand after marrying Thai nationals.
