Loke: No rush to develop Titiwangsa transportation hub

KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry is in no hurry to develop Titiwangsa transportation hub, said minister Anthony Loke.

Currently, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and MRT Corp are working on transit-oriented development concurrently, he said.

Thus, he said, the ministry did not wish to flood the market with too many projects.

However, the ministry encouraged lands belonging to government agencies to be earmarked for the hub development.

"(We) have to take action for development; at the same time, we do not want to go too fast as other development is ongoing.

"If the market condition is good, we will definitely ask for a proposal to develop the land.

"Titiwangsa is earmarked for a transit hub, so far no progress yet, no actual implementation yet as of now, but we will reserve the lands for transit-oriented development," Loke said in a press conference after visiting the upgrade works for Kuala Lumpur Monorail line facilities.

In March last year, he announced that the ministry and MRT Corp would develop Titiwangsa, located in northern Kuala Lumpur, into a key public transportation hub.

The Titiwangsa station, already serving as an interchange for the monorail and Ampang LRT line, will become a major stop under the MRT2 project.

Upon completion, it will connect three modes of transportation and include a station for the MRT3 project and a bus terminal.
