KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty-two Malaysians who were previously stranded in Chilas due to a protest in Islamabad, Pakistan, are now en route to Bersham as conditions in the region have improved.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said the Malaysian High Commission in Islamabad is actively working with local authorities to ensure their safe and secure return.
"The commission is closely monitoring the situation in Islamabad following the recent unrest in the capital over the past two days.
"They are in contact with all Malaysians currently registered with the High Commission," it said in a statement.
Malaysians in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and to follow the latest updates and guidance from local authorities, it said.
The ministry also encouraged Malaysians who have not yet registered with the High Commission to do so immediately through ekonsular.
"Malaysians requiring consular assistance can contact the High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad."
Yesterday, the ministry advised Malaysians in Pakistan to exercise caution due to a march in Islamabad led by supporters of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan.
