KUALA LUMPUR: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, who is also the Universiti Malaya (UM) Chancellor, is scheduled to officiate the opening of UM's 64th Convocation Ceremony this Saturday.
During the ceremony, UM will confer the Professor Emeritus title on several distinguished figures in clinical, science, and non-science fields, according to a statement from UM today.
Among the notable recipients in the clinical and science fields are cardiologist Datuk Dr Wan Azman Wan Ahmad; infectious diseases expert Prof Datuk Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman; and civil engineering specialist Prof Dr Mohd Zamin Jumaat.
The title will also be awarded to prominent figures in public dental health, Prof Datuk Dr Ishak Abdul Razak, and an expert in zoology and higher education, Datuk Dr Mohd Sofian Azirun.
Meanwhile, recipients of the Professor Emeritus title from non-science fields include Prof Dr Hamzah A. Rahman, Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Redzuan Othman, Prof Dr Azizah Hamzah, Prof Datuk Dr Roziah Omar, Dr Choong Yeow Choy, Prof Dr Edmund Terence Gomez and Prof Dr Mohd Nazari Ismail.
According to the statement, a total of 9,253 graduates will receive their scrolls at this year's convocation ceremony, which will take place over 16 sessions from this Saturday until Dec 8.– Bernama
