KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry has drafted plans to create more jobs at military hospitals to address staffing shortages.
Deputy Minister Adly Zahari said yesterday the ministry had proposed the establishment of a trauma centre at Tuanku Mizan Military Hospital.
This will create new positions for specialists, sub-specialists and medical officers in the armed forces, he added.
"We are also assessing the possibility of boosting robotic surgery services.
"To convince the Public Service Department (PSD) to increase staffing, we are focusing on the use of technology and its impact, which will also support the Health Ministry."
He was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (PN-Tanah Merah) on efforts to persuade PSD to allocate additional funding for specialists in military hospitals.
Adly said the ministry is committed to increasing the number of medical specialists, sub-specialists and medical officers in the armed forces to ensure the highest quality of health services.
"However, this depends on the availability of vacancies.
"It is also subject to PSD approval for new posts, which are necessary to meet the growing demand for human resources in line with the rising number of patients and treatment needs."
